Different Views

30 min - Morgan - 1.42 miles
22 min - Rhu (ponied) - 0.93 miles
8 min - Bill & Sundance - 0.5 miles

Normal view.

Wrong view.

Better view.

Interesting view.

No time to ride Morgan and walk Rhu ... so I figured I'd pony Rhu.  Morgan was not a fan of this idea and expressed herself in no uncertain terms ... flattened ears, hard eyes, grinding of teeth, and even a little kick aimed at Rhulain.

I made quick corrections to Rhu's position and got her behind and off to the side of Morgan, but Morgie was clearly not happy.  Rhu couldn't figure out why Morgan didn't want to be her buddy.
We cut the ride short ... a mere 22 minutes.

Got home to see Bill on Sundance. Wait, Sundance??!!  He hasn't ridden Sundance in about 4.5 years.  I put Rhu in the turn out, hopped back in the saddle and went out the front gate to catch Bill.  We basically rode to the corner and back.  Just enough to stretch Sundance's legs but not enough to take her out of her comfort zone.

Morgan was still not happy.  Apparently I need to feed before we go out and she doesn't want to share my time anymore.  Noted, thanks Morgie Moonpie!

Possibly Reagan's last ride

24 minutes
Rode Reagan, ponied Morgan
1.13 miles

20 minutes
Reagan, ground work

Reagan leaves either later this week or early next week.  I wanted to get in another ride or two to work out any kinks before she goes.  Figured I'd take Morgan with us, just to spend time with them both.

They are so adorable together.  Morgan took being ponied well, though she lagged behind most of the time.  Can't complain about the ride, they both did everything asked of them with nice forward momentum.

Such an odd view for me

Reagan gave me some guff when we got home ... she decided to run away from me when it was time to be put back in the turn out arena.  This caused her to have to work an additional 20 minutes after she was caught.  I was not happy having to chase her around, but was happy with her ground work.  Though she hadn't done ground work in nearly three years, she responded quickly to requests and kept her focus on me with only minor corrections.

Not going to lie, I'm going to miss this mare.  Wish I had room for six sometimes.  But, she will thrive being somebody's only horse ... she loves the attention and the grooming that comes with being somebody's absolutely favorite mare.  I'm happy for her and her new owner :)

First Ponying Session

20 Minutes
Rode Morgan, ponied Reagan
Distance: 0.5 miles

Morgan looks so worried here!  Poor thing ... it's just a quick ride Morgie!

We ran errands all day, so I didn't get home until just about dark.  I quickly threw a saddle on Morgan and a halter on Reagan and set out down the street.  We didn't go far, but it was still enough to reinforce the leading exercises I'd been working on with Reagan and to get time with both of my mares.

After a nice workout, every mare deserves a snack (and a bath)

I will say that Reagan did wonderful going in and out of the gates, waited patiently for me to mount and then stayed on the side she was assigned.  That's a big improvement over our last venture together.  She still lags behind on while walking away from the property and tries to take the lead on the way back ... but she did much better and quick, quiet reminders had her positioned where she should be in a few seconds.

Once again, I am so, so thankful for Morgan.  She's such a steady, willing, and forgiving partner.

Ponying Majesty

Saturday, August 16th  20 minute ride  95°
Pony Majesty
Did I hear ride?
Yep Morg, you did. What do you say we take Majesty along with us?

Wait ... where's Bill?  Where's my saddle?
It's alright Maj! You just get to walk along with Morg and I.

20 minutes later ...
No more pictures of that Arabian. He was a serious pain to drag around. Slowest.Horse.Ever.

I agree Morgie ... just you and me from now on. Promise!

December 30, 2012 - Morgan 30 minutes

Rode Morgan around the house.  Tried to pony Smoke, but Morg was antsy and didn't want to walk so I dropped Smoke off and rode her for about 20 minutes.

October 21, 2012 - Morgan & Mochie

Took Morgan for a quick 20 minute ride with Mochie in tow.  The change in Morgan was adorable!  She was acting like a "tour guide" and taking Mochie to all her favorite spots - over to the planter where all the "snacks" are (Mochie actually stepped up into the planter trying to get snacks).

Walked around the block using the washed out road.  Morgan decided to take Mochie between the bush and the front porch when we got back to the shous.  Mochie pulled back (yanking my shoulder a bit), but Morg kept going forward, down the driveway and Mochie followed along.  Morgan made Mochie trot at a couple of points, but couldn't get them to a lope.  I left them standing under a tree snacking on grass while I untacked Morgan then led them both to the turn out and fed.  Fun!

May 15, 2012

Saddled Sundance and ponied Morgan around the turn out for a bit to make sure they were ok with the situation.  Opened the gate and both were excited to go out.  Walked to the end of the goat pen and back.  Dance was stumbling so I untacked her in the turn out and let her eat.

Saddled Morgan and took her for a walk between the trailer and stalls, out in the open acre behind their stalls, turned left at the road and then back to the house.  She checked me twice for treats, but no issues otherwise.  Want to take her and Luppy on the same route before trying to ride it.
