Feeling Spunky

30 minutes - 1.34 miles (jog/trot) - Rhulain

Rhulain was in a great mood this morning ... look at that happy face!  She snacked on a few alfalfa cubes which turned her lips a lovely green foam. Ha!  We could see the first smattering of snow on the mountains.  Guess winter has officially arrived.
The air was crisp, the roads were clear, and it was a chilly 40 degrees.  We both felt the urge to stretch our legs this morning.  After walking 0.25 miles to stretch, we started jogging.
It's so exhilarating to jog next to her ... she stays right beside me and gives a gentle nudge if I start to slow down.  After nearly a mile, we stopped so she could grab a snack and I could catch my breath.
Walked for a bit, noticed the calf/goat carcass is gone (don't want to know what happened to it either), and then we jogged the last 0.18 miles to the house. Perfect way to start my day.

Mondays with Morgie, Again

21 minutes - 1.04 miles - Morgie

Morgie was snuggly this morning.  She "hugged" me more than once ... or maybe she was just checking my back pockets for more snacks.  Dang it.

Everywhere I looked today, there were Morgie ears.  I'm not complaining, I adore Morgie ears.  She was snuggled up right next to me the whole walk.  Guess she missed our morning walks.

I missed you too Morgie.

2 in 1 - First Bareback Ride on Rhulain

24 minutes - 0.92 miles - Morgan
Morgan was more interested in snacking than how the new bitless fit or looked.  That's my Morgie girl ... never one to miss a meal.  Love her!
We started out with me walking beside her, but after a half mile she stopped next to a sandy embankment.  I know her well enough to know that means "get in the saddle already."  So I did.  Absolute comfort.  Thank you Morgie!

18 minutes - 0.90 miles - Rhulain
Rhulain and I started out on the same path, but she didn't feel like walking ... she wanted to trot.  So, I obliged by climbing in the saddle and allowing her to set the path and pace.  It was so freeing!  I had to slow her down a few times because of footing changes, but we spent most of the time just trotting along merrily. *sigh* She's dreamy.

After we got home and I untacked her, she stood there with the back leg cocked watching me.  Her bare back looked so inviting.  I didn't think twice ... I hopped up on a tree stump, slid my leg across her back before I could second guess the wisdom of this action.
Yep, she was dreamy.
I really got a feel for her and realized I need to slide her saddle back a bit farther to accommodate her shoulder action.  She stopped when I asked and allowed me to take a picture with flash before I slid off.

Have I mentioned she's Amazing yet?

Halloween Without Horses

Zeus and I went as skeletons ... Bill and Einstein went as a chef and his lobster in a pot.  We didn't win the pet costume this year, but Einstein was definitely the crowd favorite.  Next year Einstein will win!

As for the horses, they got the day off.  Bill and I attended the Friesian World Cup during the day.  Interestingly, we didn't see a single Friesian.  We did see two Morgans (both bays and gorgeous), many Saddlebreds and a few Hackneys.  It was a good time ... many beautiful horses, but none I wanted to take home.  That could be because I have two awesome Morgans at home already.

Einstein's 2nd Vacation

Einstein does well in the car ... give him a fluffy blanket and he goes right to sleep.  He's totally adorable.

We visited my hometown and watched the sun set over the water.  I wondered how many sunsets I forgot to appreciate in the 28 years I lived there.  Loved being home, seeing my parents, and smelling the salty air.

The next day we went to visit the city of Burbank, California.  Poor Einstein had to be carried in my purse for hours at a time because we went to a DVD signing for the movie "Christine."

Then we drove to Griffith Park to visit the Bronson Caves.  Why?  Well, because it's where ...

the Batmobile came out of the "Batcave" and ...
(my absolutely favorite television show of all time)
There's a wonderful view of the "Hollywood" sign and my amazing spouse

Hoof Trims!

So, it was time for everyone to get their hooves trimmed.
Majesty went to sleep during his trim. Might be the full breakfast he ate, or it could have been the snuggling in Bill's arms.
Bill said Rhulain was still having trouble with her back hooves.  *sigh*  Every time I handle her I pick up her backs but it seems like I need to hold them longer.  K, issue noted.
