Morgan and I tour the property

Morgan was the first one to get to use the hitching post ... which means she stood there and made funny faces. Love that girl.  Shedding season started for Morgie and there was bay hair everywhere when we were done grooming.

 

   

 As we were wrapping up our ride, Morgan stopped at the monorail checking herself out.  She was like "Mom, do you see how gorgeous I am?"  Yes Morgie, I know how wonderful you are and I love you my furry little mare.

Rhu wasn't feeling it today

20 minutes - 0.67 miles - Rhulain

I hopped in the saddle off the new mounting block today and Rhu seemed anxious to go, so I let her choose her path and pace.  She trotted for about two minutes, then turned and started walking home.   Um, no.

She came upon a debris filled sand dune that we initially encountered on June 5th.  She brought her nose around for comfort and after receiving reassurance, she stepped right in the middle, stopped and snacked, then we headed on down the road.  Nicely done Rhu Rhu Bean.

She stopped to check out her reflection in the monorail, but one glance wasn't enough, or maybe she didn't like the profile, because she had to stop and admire her full profile ...

I love this horse.

Rhu rides solo

26 minutes - Rhulain - 1.06 miles

We took our normal walk for half a mile, let her snack on the dried grass, and then hopped in the saddle for the ride back.

  She did well, but got nervous when the neighbor's yappy dog came out of the yard.  We faced the dog and stepped forward causing the little dog ran back to it's yard.

Noticed that she responds better to leg cues and gets a bit annoyed if I use the reins first.  We'll work through that.

I asked her to stop near the monorail so I could get proof we rode ... she stood still until asked to move.  That's such a pleasure!

Where's my after ride treat? Don't hold out on me!

I had her open and shut the big metal gate today while I was in the saddle.  She figured out what I was asking rather quickly.  Very excited to see what our future rides will hold!

It was such a lovely ride ... no stress, no fuss, no worries ... weather just right and the clouds were amazing

Once we got back, I put a halter on Rhu and went for a walk down the street to the sand dunes

She got a bit nervous, then I realized she had spotted the quad coming down the road.  We stepped off the road and let them pass.  She watched it for a few seconds, then we continued on 

We climbed a dune, let her survey the area (and snack a bit) before we headed down the dune at a walk.  We took a different path home, crossing the open desert with jackrabbits bounding about

Great walk ... The only thing is, she doesn't hold still for pictures!

Wasabi wanted some attention too.  So, I tossed the halter on and took her for a walk around the monorail.  She pressed her nose to the glass, then stepped back and nodded.  I'd swear that horse was admiring her reflection.  Oh Bill, you have one spoiled horse.

I put Wasabi back, then started to walk back to the house when I heard Rhu call out.  I turned to see all four mares standing there watching me.  I sighed with contentment ... I get to live out childhood dreams every day.

Bill asked if I wanted to go for a ride ... you never have to ask me twice!

Saddled up by bestie girl and headed out to the sand dunes.  Not another soul in site ... it was simply marvelous.  It was a bit windy, but that just helped keep us from overheating.

Then we came home and rode the horses past our newest acquisition ...

A monorail.

This one was engineered and used at Walt Disney World until it was retired and sold to MGM Grand for use in Las Vegas.  It ran between the Bally's Casino and MGM Casino for a few years before they retired it and sent it to be stored in our Valley.  Bill knew the gentleman who was storing it and they worked out a deal.  Bill sold an engine and a passenger car on eBay to a gentleman who is renovating the cars to become a children's museum in New York.

As for us ... who knows what it will become ... may become sleeping compartments, dining cars, butterfly habitat, or even Amber's new tack shed.  It hold many options and we're entertaining all notions, no matter how crazy!
