33 minutes - 1.57 miles
Rhu, the kid, and I took a walk today. They were making silly faces and acting strange, so I decided to document their antics. Dorks ... I wonder where they learned it? Ahem.
Wasn't our best time, but anytime spent together is valuable!

Moonlit Walk
46 minutes - 1.86 miles - Rhulain
Full moon on summer solstice? Oh yeah, it's definitely time for a walk with Rhulain. It was odd to be able to see our shadows at 9:00 pm, but I was definitely grateful for the light.
Rhu was in a great mood and had my knee felt better, I would have gone for a ride rather than a walk. She was calm and obviously glad to be out.
Rhu kept giving me nudges, kisses, and snuggles. Funny girl ... I'm glad to see you too!

Sunrise Walk
Ground work/walking for 30 minutes
I get some funny faces in the morning ... especially when I'm carrying a halter instead of feed buckets. Wasabi was afraid the halter was for her, Majesty tried to shove his nose in my jacket (in case there were treats hidden in there), and Morgan, well, she seemed eager for our morning walk. She looks absolutely lovely in the morning light!
After walking over the boards, we headed down our familiar road and chatted a bit. She really didn't hold up her end of the conversation, but she did offer to share her "snack" with me. Thanks Morgan, that looks tasty, but you need the protein more than I. :)
The nice part of walking beside her is that I get to clean up the road we normally ride on ... this way I can be sure there is no debris or large rocks in our way when we are trotting later on. Today we removed a woman's high heel, three bottles, two cans, and a Christmas tree stand. On our walk we stepped over our favorite log a few times. Always a good time!
I timed our adventure and discovered it takes us exactly 10 minutes to walk 1 mile (the end of the street). So, we can walk down the street and back in 20 minutes, then I can hop in the saddle for a 5 minute trot to the end of the street, and then walk back to the house in 10 minutes for a cool down.
Sounds like we just set our morning routine for next week!

A Day of Silly Faces
Saturday, November 8th 60 minute ride
Rode with Bill and Majesty
Normally I am in charge of the camera, drinks, snacks, extra batteries, or whatever can be stuffed in to the saddle bags. This time I handed the saddle bag off to Bill once we left the property, which meant we got some very different pictures :)
Our goat (Eclipse, or "Lips" for short), decided heading out on the trail sounded like fun ...
Just a great day filled with smiles and laughter!

Hey guys, where ya going, can I come? Slow down, I have short legs!
I'm coming! Wait, that bush looks tasty ... I'll see you later.
Whenever the camera comes out, so do the silly faces ... tongues sticking out, cheesy grins, downright goofy looks, and grinning goats!
We explored an area we hadn't been through before ... what better way to have an adventure than getting off the beaten path with your favorite person and most awesome horses?
Bill took the lead for a while, and was taking pictures over his shoulder ... he makes me laugh ... perhaps he should be in charge of the camera more often!
What's that in the sky? A bird, a plane, superman? Nope, just me and Morgan waiting for the boys to catch up.

30 minutes a day chases the blues away
Wednesday, August 27th 30 minute ride 88°
Solo
Solo
Morgan: "What are you doing down there? Hey guys ... our human pez-dispenser has fallen down, dinner might be late"
Me: "I'm fine Morgan, just getting rocks out of my boot."
Morgan was fabulous about leaving the property today! We only had one point where she stopped, looked worried. I counted to five out loud and then asked her to move on. After that, she went everywhere without hesitation. Went a little farther then our normal route and had a great time.
We headed back home as soon as the light started to fade because we haven't heard that the mountain lion has been caught yet. Then we did our normal cheesy pictures (after treats were consumed of course).
On a sucktastic note, we came home to find that someone had stolen the windows out of our horse trailer. They left all the tack and spare tire in the trailer, but pried out the windows. *sigh*

Silly Faces and Scary Objects
Tuesday, July 29th Left at 6:28 pm Home at 7:21 pm 85°
Rode with Bill & Wasabi
Stayed on the road ... about 3 miles total
We borrowed Bill's new rope halter and lead rope. When asked how she felt about the blue color, these are the faces I got:
Weather has been unusually lovely, so we have been taking advantage of it to squeeze in as many rides as possible. Tonight Bill decided it was Wasabi's turn for an adventure. She hadn't been out since July 10th, but she seemed to be in the mood for a ride.
She marched up and down the dirt piles without so much as a twitch today. Even when the sand started shifting under her feet, she calmly strode on as if she'd been doing this forever. Far cry from her first sand dune experience a few weeks ago.
We stuck to the road, but still encountered some strange objects. First there was scary balloons stuck in the bushes that moved mysteriously ... it's called a breeze Wasabi, it's not mysterious at all. Bill took advantage of the situation to flex her neck and readjust her focus. A mere 30 seconds after sighting the balloons, she marched by them as if she'd lived with them all her life.
We continued on the road for two "blocks" (about 1/2 a mile) before starting towards home. Morgan and I were paralleling them because she was still showing slight discomfort in the rocks. Whenever we got a bit ahead of them, Wasabi tried to retake the lead. Bill didn't seem to think we were funny, so we settled down to a slow walk.
We took the main road home to see how Wasabi would react with cars going by. She didn't even glance over at the cars coming or going. She was doing so well we decided to pass our house and go play with the fallen tree. Unfortunately, my batteries died, so there are no pictures of the "action." She stepped over the log the first time Bill asked with no hesitation. The second and third times required a little more patience and cajoling, but she and Bill worked out a cue on when to pick up her front lets and all was well by the fourth and fifth attempt. Morgan actually jumped the log after my third request to go over it. Oh happy day!

Guessing Morgan is not a fan of the blue. I, however, thought it was dashing. Oh well.
First thing to tackle, some dirt piles on the side of the road

Before the scary balloon ... the terrifying Elmo lurking in the bushes ...
flex the neck ... and then pass by the balloon as if they didn't exist. Success!

Mailboxes? Car? No issues ... just keep strolling on Wasabi girl
