Mochie & Majesty
A snake slithered under Mochie as we were stopped on a plateau. She had been acting strangely but didn't spook. I did though.  First time I'd seen a snake while riding. Yuck.
Also, both horses started acting stupid on the way back to the house.  Came over a sand dune to see some sort of carcass in our path.  Looks like it had been there a while. Double Yuck.

Note to self, when Mochie tries to tell you something, listen. Sheesh.

Came home to find our goat Rail's head hanging limply through the fencing.  Thought she was dead.  Turned out she was still alive.  Let Luppy nuzzle her while I went to the house and grabbed my gun.

Sang you are my sunshine to her then had to shoot her in the head.  Stayed with her until she stopped breathing.  So hard.  That's the fourth goat we've lost in a year.  Not sure I'm cut out for this rancher type life. Sorry Rail ... hope you're frolicking with Benny, Joon, and Lucy now.

February 2, 2013 - Morgan & Majesty, 3 hours

Took the kids on the ACTHA ride.  They were horrible.

Majesty liked the new bit initially, but once the newness wore off, he became a little fiesty.  Morg started OK, but kept rushing up to Majesty's bum.  She tossed her head, wouldn't stop, wouldn't stand, wouldn't walk.  It was frustrating but manageable.  I decided there is no recourse with the bitless, so we'll need to try a bit for awhile.

Todd rode behind me and as Morg was fighting me, he told me my seat had improved.  It was nice to hear!

After the ride, Deub talked to Bill and I.  Said I don't sit in my seat - I sit on it.  He's right.  I'm anticipating rather than relaxing.  Said I need to clear her out of my space and quit letting her run over me on the ground.  He's right.  Said I need a bit as well, but my saddle is OK.

January 27, 2013 - Morgan and Majesty, 1 hour

* hoof trim, Morg & Maj

Had a little trouble with Morgan loading.  She got in once she felt the butt rope.  Have to work on that.

Trailered to Gina's.  Morg wouldn't hold still for a trim, had to round pen her.  Mr Shameless was there and calling out to the mare, it was windy, Majesty was out of sight, but still!  She calmed down once she was saddled.

We walked over to a mounting block and as Bill was swinging over the saddle horn, Maj snapped his head up (he got surprised by a small dog) and caught Bill in the nose - bloody mess!  Bill decided to ride anyways, so we headed out.

About 30 minutes in, Majesty's bit snapped in half so we had to walk back.  On a good note, Morgan handled herself like a dream!

When we got back, we noticed Bill's hat was lost.  We untacked, loaded (no problems), and drove down the path till we found the hat.

3 strikes and the ride is over!  We have to ride the trail again on Saturday for the ACTHA competition.  We'll see how it goes.

January 23, 2013 - Morgan, 10 minutes

Dark, stormy night.  Threw feed in everyone's buckets but couldn't resist a ride.  Saddled Morg up while she ate.  That girl is such a trooper!

Told her two quick laps in the turn out and she was done - one lap to the left, one lap to the right, and she headed to her stall.  I laughed and said I wasn't quite done yet so she took me for one more lap.  Such an awesome horse.

Side note: Bill rode Majesty on January 20th.  I was too sick to go.

January 13, 2013 - Morgan and Majesty - 1 hour

Morgan loaded first time - both ways!  Trailered to the library.  Headed down the trail and through the sand dunes.  We spotted a coyote at the top of the next dune.  Bill had Majesty charge the coyote hollering at it, so we joined in.  The coyote went down the dune and joined two more coyotes.  We watched them run farther down the road before we continued through the dunes.

A gentleman on a dirt bike came over a rise in front of us.  The horses handled themselves well and we continued down the dunes.

Maj spotted a large piece of metal and stopped; Morg was more interested in horses ahead of us and ignored the metal.  We let them trot for a while to stretch their legs but brought them down before they could sweat.  Saw the coyotes again a few hundred feet off.  Really good day!
